Chinese New Year celebrations in Cairns

Cairns’ Chinese New Year program runs from 13 February to 8 March 2026, with events and activations centred around the Cairns Esplanade. Expect lanterns, cultural performances, market-style stalls and plenty of atmosphere along the waterfront.

Local tip: Go early evening for the vibe, then wander back to the CBD when you’ve had your fill of crowds (and/or dumplings).

Rusty’s Markets

Rusty’s is a Cairns institution for tropical fruit, fresh produce and quick bites. It’s the kind of place where you arrive “just to look” and leave with a mango the size of a small football.
